3. Milling cutters are divided into two types according to the processing mode of tooth back:
1) Sharp tooth milling cutter: a narrow edge band is ground on the back to form a back angle. Due to the reasonable cutting angle, its service life is longer. The tooth back of sharp tooth milling cutter has three forms: straight line, curve and broken line. Straight tooth back is often used for fine tooth finishing milling cutter. The cutter teeth of curve and broken line tooth back have good strength and can bear heavy cutting load. They are commonly used in coarse tooth milling cutter. The sharp tooth milling cutter has the characteristics of grinding the flank, simple and convenient, good machining surface quality, high durability and high cutting efficiency. It is mainly used for machining planes and grooves.
2) Spade milling cutter: the back of the milling cutter is processed into the tooth back of Archimedes spiral by shovel cutting or shovel grinding. After the milling cutter is blunt, it only needs to regrind the front, which can keep the original tooth profile unchanged. It is used to manufacture various forming milling cutters such as gear milling cutter. Generally used for machining formed surfaces.
4. According to the number of cutter teeth, it can also be divided into coarse tooth milling cutter and fine tooth milling cutter:
1) Coarse tooth milling cutter: the number of teeth is less, the strength of cutter teeth is high, and the chip holding space is large, which is suitable for rough machining.
2) Fine tooth milling cutter: the number of teeth is more, which is suitable for semi finishing and finishing.
5. According to the structure and installation method of milling cutter, it can be divided into shank milling cutter and hole milling cutter:
1) Shank milling cutter: it can be divided into straight shank and taper shank. Generally, smaller milling cutters with diameter less than 20mm are made into straight shank. Larger diameter milling cutters are usually made into taper shanks. This kind of milling cutter is mostly used for end milling. Milling cutters with shank can be divided into the following types:
(1) End milling cutter: because the cutter teeth are distributed on the end face and cylindrical surface of the milling cutter, it is mostly used to process the plane on the vertical lifting table milling machine, and can also be used to process the plane on the horizontal lifting table milling machine.
(2) End mill: this is a kind of cutter with handle, which has straight handle and conical handle. It is suitable for milling end face, as well as plane, groove and step surface.
(3) Keyway milling cutter and T-groove milling cutter: they are specialized in machining keyway and T-grooves.
(4) Dovetail groove milling cutter: specially used for milling dovetail groove.
2) Milling cutter with hole: the milling cutter with hole is suitable for horizontal milling machine. It can process all kinds of surfaces and has a wide range of applications. Milling cutter with holes can be divided into:
(1) Cylindrical milling cutter: because it only has a cutting edge on the surface of the cylinder, it is used to process the plane on the horizontal lifting table milling machine.
(2) Three edge milling cutter and saw blade milling cutter: three side edge milling cutter is generally used to process right angle groove on horizontal lifting table milling machine. It can also process step surface and narrow side, etc. Saw blade milling cutter is mainly used to cut off workpieces or milling narrow grooves.
(3) Modular milling cutter: used to process gears.
In short, milling cutter plays an important role in the manufacturing industry all over the world. Moreover, with the rapid development of manufacturing industry, milling cutter will play a greater role in its field.
